December was another exciting month for QUO.
We prepared hard in the first part of the month for three public performances. Not only did we have to prepare and practice new songs, but the setlist for each concert was slightly different. Kath led us in the first gig, which was for QUOFS at the Old School, Quorn, on the afternoon of the 18th December. Despite the lack of space, we played well and were very well received and rewarded with tea and mince pies!
The next gig was on the 20th December at Orchards Care Home. Led this time by Norman, we again performed in a limited space (some of us in the corridor). The staff and residents really appreciated our music and we came away (after more tea and cake) feeling we had done something really worthwhile.
The next concert was on the evening of 20th December at Quorn Baptist Church. This concert really felt like a coming of age. We had a stage, a large audience, and performed alongside other musicians. Our concert of carols and Christmas music was performed with precision and passion and gave pleasure to an enthusiastic audience who joined in and sang along. A really memorable evening.
I was going to say “and that was that” but there was a codicil to Thursday evening. The QUO ended up in the Quordon Fox, being recognised by folk at the bar as we went in. The drinks were barely sipped before out came the ukuleles and an impromptu concert of carols was performed for the benefit of those in the bar.
December was a good month for QUO. We feel confident and excited about the coming year and the musical adventures it will bring. Happy Christmas everyone!
